I’ve learned a lot about the low level stuff and the why (which makes remembering it much easier for me). I can recommend this for anyone starting a career in Linux, as it introduces you and prepares you for different flavours of Linux very well.

One of the main reasons I selected LPI was that the courses are not distribution-specific. They give you knowledge in all areas. A good example of this that both rpm and deb package formats are taught and at no point is one recommended above the other. Another area where LPi scores is in the Linux networking area where this extensive topic has been split over a number of sections rather than have one large section.

This is the first Linux Certification I have completed. I found the time invested in this qualification is already paying itself off. The LPIC-1 study guide seems to be a good place to start for the beginner. By downloading a Linux Distribution and getting hands on practice is truly valuable. Reading the book is one thing following it through with a Linux build is another and then finally doing the exam and practising what you learned. I will continue to follow the LPIC path.
