Posted on 24th August 201630th August 2016 by Helen Hammond

When you’re part of the global Linux community it can be easy to get stuck in a rut of only communicating digitally.  How many of us work with people, on a daily basis, that we’ve only ever ‘met’ via Skype or email?  And whilst the digital tools available make our work lives possible, there are[…]

I have worked with and taught Linux for over eight years, the majority of my work has been with Debian, Redhat and SUSE in that order. It is so important to have broad base of knowledge. The LPIC certifications tick all of the boxes. I used the LPIC1 & 2 books whilst training my competitor for WorldSkills 2013, he gained the highest point score the UK has achieved in the history of the IT Network Systems Administration competition.

Start of my development towards cloud computing. It gave me a good understanding of the Linux basics and prepares me for the rest of my certification path.

I am a veteran of Linux+ and currently work in a RHEL centric telecoms environment. Many people who apply for positions do not have any tangible evidence of the desired level of knowledge and can often be found wanting. LPI certs cover a very wide range of Linux OS administration and protocols which reflects a good understanding of the OS.

I would recommend LPI Certification as one of non distribution related Linux certification. I learnt many new things despite I’ve been involved in Linux for over 10 years now and it is a great opportunity to challenge yours abilities.

The ubiquitous use of Linux in the world today on all types of devices has placed a demand on educational institutes to embed Linux / Open Source into their academic programmes. Schools use Raspberry PIs to teach computing and here at GCU Linux and Open Source tools are an important skill taught to students in a range of undergraduate courses, for example our undergraduate security programmes which prepare them for industry. We are extremely pleased to now partner LPI.

Working as a consultant, there’s no guarantee that you’ll work with the same flavour of Linux all the time. This shop might be Ubuntu, the next shop Red Hat… The LPIC certifications require, and evidence, competency with Red Hat and Debian families of Linux. If you have to wear many Linux hats and they’re not all Red, get LPIC-2 certified.

I can definitely recommend LPIC exam because it helped me re-iterate Linux basics and discover new commands and possibilities. Thanks to LPIC, I’m more effective at my work and I feel more confident working with command line. Now I consider taking LPIC-2 exam as well.

Linux Essentials – Great starting point for entry into using Linux.
Owen Murr
I would recommend the LPI certification as an excellent way to get into Linux and learn all the basis, and more. The certification itself is very useful to prove a good Linux knowledge to potential new employers.

Great course, exa focuses on Linux, but also contains questions on computer hardware.
