The LPI and Future Cert supporting women in IT

Posted on 16th December 2016 by Rebecca Hunt

Bringing more women into the Open Source industry is something that the LPI and Future Cert is committed to. We’ve blogged on the topic before, but here are some of the things we do to support women in IT, and women who want to gain LPI qualifications. Talking about it. Simply talking about the issue is[…]

I can highly recommend LPIC 1 as a great entry level qualification into the world of Linux. Although I had extensive knowledge before going through the course I still learned on ways to improve my workflow and it introduced me to some concepts I didn’t think of doing before. LPIC 1 is the ideal qualification for an entry level Linux Administrator or even the Experienced Administrator looking to refresh their skill set and update their knowledge. I am definitely looking to progress to LPIC 2 & 3.…

To my mind LPI is the best Linux Certification path. Truly distribution agnostic with real content that can be applied in all situations. Anyone with this has the knowledge to delve into and understand any Linux system. A truly useful technical qualification. To my mind LPI is the best Linux Certification path. I have held the LPIC 2 for a few years now and found it vital in my role as a Linux Sysadmin. I have even been an LPIC 2 trainer and really enjoyed passing on the more advanced topics to students. It is well structured and provides a good grounding in Linux and the more advanced Linux services.

One of the main reasons I selected LPI was that the courses are not distribution-specific. They give you knowledge in all areas. A good example of this that both rpm and deb package formats are taught and at no point is one recommended above the other. Another area where LPi scores is in the Linux networking area where this extensive topic has been split over a number of sections rather than have one large section.

LPIC 1 – gain good, all-round, foundational Linux skills and get recognised for it.

I work for BT Security. I wanted a Linux certification to show that I know Linux, However, whilst studying for the LPIC-1 I found out a new thing or two! Secondly, I work with many devices such as Juniper and Checkpoint Firewalls, Proxies, Splunk etc that typically use Linux as their background OS. They usually are slightly different to each other but I found the LPIC covers most variations. Especially the various methods of carrying out service control or adding user accounts. So overall I was …

I would recommend the LPI certification as an excellent way to get into Linux and learn all the basis, and more. The certification itself is very useful to prove a good Linux knowledge to potential new employers.

The ubiquitous use of Linux in the world today on all types of devices has placed a demand on educational institutes to embed Linux / Open Source into their academic programmes. Schools use Raspberry PIs to teach computing and here at GCU Linux and Open Source tools are an important skill taught to students in a range of undergraduate courses, for example our undergraduate security programmes which prepare them for industry. We are extremely pleased to now partner LPI.

I have held the certification of LPIC 2 for a month now, Its a great cert to have and I can see a definite improvement in my skills from this time a year ago, LPI is defiantly the way to go I think as a sys admin, Any issues questions I can help with for other people studying for this exam don’t hesitate to contact me.

I can definitely recommend LPIC exam because it helped me re-iterate Linux basics and discover new commands and possibilities. Thanks to LPIC, I’m more effective at my work and I feel more confident working with command line. Now I consider taking LPIC-2 exam as well.
