The LPIC certifications tick all of the boxes. I used the LPIC1 & 2 books whilst training my competitor for WorldSkills 2013, he gained the highest point score the UK has achieved in the history of the IT Network Systems Administration competition.

I would recommend the LPI certification, as I was looking for some Linux course to give me a good basis in Linux, LPI certification seem to fit well. I also used the certification as a goal to keep me motivated, so now when I meet others who have completed LPI, Certification, have an appreciation of their skills.

Working as a consultant, there’s no guarantee that you’ll work with the same flavour of Linux all the time. This shop might be Ubuntu, the next shop Red Hat… The LPIC certifications require, and evidence, competency with Red Hat and Debian families of Linux. If you have to wear many Linux hats and they’re not all Red, get LPIC-2 certified.

This is the first Linux Certification I have completed. I found the time invested in this qualification is already paying itself off. The LPIC-1 study guide seems to be a good place to start for the beginner. By downloading a Linux Distribution and getting hands on practice is truly valuable. Reading the book is one thing following it through with a Linux build is another and then finally doing the exam and practising what you learned. I will continue to follow the LPIC path.

I did this course as a validation of my knowledge, as I work with Debian-based NAS products every day. I’ve learned a lot about the low level stuff and the why (which makes remembering it much easier for me).
