Posted on 24th August 201630th August 2016 by Helen Hammond

When you’re part of the global Linux community it can be easy to get stuck in a rut of only communicating digitally.  How many of us work with people, on a daily basis, that we’ve only ever ‘met’ via Skype or email?  And whilst the digital tools available make our work lives possible, there are[…]

Testimonials

I have worked with and taught Linux for over eight years, the majority of my work has been with Debian, Redhat and SUSE in that order. It is so important to have broad base of knowledge. The LPIC certifications tick all of the boxes. I used the LPIC1 & 2 books whilst training my competitor for WorldSkills 2013, he gained the highest point score the UK has achieved in the history of the IT Network Systems Administration competition.

Linux Essentials – Great starting point for entry into using Linux.

Having worked hard and studied for some time I successfully completed my LPIC 3 cert, it is one of the top certs I have and it confirms to end clients that I have a deep understanding and complete end to end view of any Linux environment. The goal for any professional Linux specialist should be the LPIC 3 cert, I know from personal experience that it will not only benefit you professionally but also financially as end clients pay a premium for top rated quals and professionals who attain them.

Yes, as a Linux Systems Operations Administrator, I can show my LPI certifications to show that I have a lot of professional experience working with Linux Servers. Certifications are very valuable when changing jobs.

Start of my development towards cloud computing. It gave me a good understanding of the Linux basics and prepares me for the rest of my certification path.

Working as a consultant, there’s no guarantee that you’ll work with the same flavour of Linux all the time. This shop might be Ubuntu, the next shop Red Hat… The LPIC certifications require, and evidence, competency with Red Hat and Debian families of Linux. If you have to wear many Linux hats and they’re not all Red, get LPIC-2 certified.

I have held the LPIC 2 for a few years now and found it vital in my role as a Linux Sysadmin. I have even been an LPIC 2 trainer and really enjoyed passing on the more advanced topics to students. It is well structured and provides a good grounding in Linux and the more advanced Linux services.

One of the main reasons I selected LPI was that the courses are not distribution-specific. They give you knowledge in all areas. A good example of this that both rpm and deb package formats are taught and at no point is one recommended above the other. Another area where LPi scores is in the Linux networking area where this extensive topic has been split over a number of sections rather than have one large section.
Paul Muldoon-Smith
I would recommend LPI Certification as one of non distribution related Linux certification. I learnt many new things despite I’ve been involved in Linux for over 10 years now and it is a great opportunity to challenge yours abilities.
Ray SkorupskiITS Engineer
I have been working with Linux for years and wanted a certification to prove I am conversant with the skill. I studied for LPI1 which helped me pass the essential. I would highly recommend this certification.
